What started as a simple group to assemble Upper Gastrointestinal surgeons of diverse backgrounds on Twitter in October'2020 has evolved into a strong global community of more than 1000 members in less than 6 months. The Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (TUGS) Society represents the global community of Upper Gastro-intestinal Surgery and all its various sub-specialities.
There is currently no global platform representing all of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. TUGS aims to fill this space by uniting us all under one umbrella. TUGS recognises that though there are differences between oesophagogastric cancer surgery, bariatric surgery, hepato-biliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, hernia surgery, trauma surgery, etc, there is considerable overlap in our work and we all not uncommonly look after patients in one area or the other. There is more that unites us than separates us.
TUGS hopes that interactions across our relatively narrow fields of specialisation and the national boundaries will improve patient care, continuing education, and opportunities to collaborate on academic matters and research.
